Five Little Meditation Books

Hi there! This is my very first post on my new blog, and I cannot think of a greater way to start off than by sharing my top five favorite meditation books.

All of these little books are small enough to fit in a purse or jacket pocket, and they make a great way to pass the time in the doctor’s office waiting room, on the train, or just sipping coffee every morning. Some of these I have had for years, and others are newer to my growing collection. I have listed them below in order of how much I love them.

(Please note, this is not a sponsored post. I have included links below to purchase these books purely for my readers’ convenience of my own accord.)

  1. Sit Like a Buddha by Lodro Rinzler

This book saved my life. I am very serious. As a person who struggled with anxiety for most of her life, this book has changed the way I think and speak to myself internally. It was the very first meditation book that really “clicked” for me and launched me into a consistent meditation practice. Lodro’s simplistic language, calming voice, and clear analogies made me understand what it meant to be mindful. He taught me how to use mindfulness to combat my anxiety and depression, and I hope to be able to repay him one day.

  2. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

Given to me as a gift from my mother when I was a teenager, this is my favorite poetry book of all time. Gibran’s storytelling is unmatched in beauty and simplicity as he tackles the deepest questions about life, love and family in this little book.

  3. Mindfulness ON THE GO by Jan Chozen Bays

When you’re really into meditation, loved ones buy you lovely gifts like these for holidays. My brother gifted me this last Christmas, and it has not disappointed! Filled with actual mindfulness practices and applicable tips, this book is probably one of the best ones for a beginner. Jan has a calming and practical voice that will surely help any newbie get started in their mindfulness practice.

  4. The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh by Thich Nhat Hanh

Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the most adorable little old souls. Although this book is filled with applicable mindfulness practices, Hanh’s style is much more poetic and eastern than Bays or Rinzler. He speaks about simple everyday things with love and tenderness. Reading this will make you look at your day through rose-tinted glasses.

  5. When the Chocolate Runs Out by Lama Yeshe

Purchased on a whim while in Denver, this little mindfulness book is full of chocolatey analogies. Yeshe has a very practical voice which is great when you need an attitude check. Plus, the book attracts a lot of attention since it looks like chocolate! I love having a reason to chat about meditation with strangers and coworkers.
